Fortunate

When one of my children has an “attitude of a turd” rather than an “attitude of gratitude”, I point them in this direction.  I want them to understand that they are Fortunate.

When I feel the urge to complain about something inane or inconsequential, I try to remember that I am Fortunate.

When someone I love is taking their life and love for granted, I want to shake them and remind them that they are Fortunate.

What are your thoughts?

Sometimes we just forget how fortunate we are. Thanks for remembering.

Isabel, I think we all need a good reminder once in a while. Thanks for taking the time to share in this space today… hope to see you back soon!

So timely (for me) to read this first thing today, I was just meditating on these exact sentiments as I awoke this morning…

Thanx…

See that? Same side of the equation!

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about gratitude and I love this reminder. It really puts things in perspective.

Me too… It’s something that is always on my heart and mind. It is something that I try to weave into our daily existence around here. Not just because I want the children to have that in their core, but because I need that too.

Same here. I’m making steps to be more mindful and more grateful because it brings peace amongst the chaos. And while I have a lot of rough things happening, I have a lot to be grateful for that gets lost at times.

I know exactly what you mean. I think I need to do a post on the “how” I weave it into our day. Waddayathink? Cuz there’s a whole lot of talk about the fact that we should be grateful, but not on “how” to create that mindset.

I think that’s a great idea. Being grateful seems like an overwhelming concept to people and it can be hard to know where to start and how to make it part of your day.

Excellent, I think I have a draft in here somewhere…

Good! I had a great talk with M on the way to school today and your post was my starting point. He feels the same way we’re talking about: it’s all good in theory but how do you go about doing it. Especially when you’re a kid whose life is upside-down and you don’t know where to start.

I don’t know if what we do would work for everyone… I would actually love to hear from other families about this subject, especially after what you said here. Hhhmmm…

I am constantly reminding my kids we are fortunate. We are actually wealthy, because we have money in the bank, we have money in our wallets and we definitely can spend a bit these days. I just figured out how to save my money on certain things, so I can re-direct it towards things that have meaning for us.
Like our first family vacation this Summer. A real one, where Mommy and Daddy aren’t completely stressed and fighting about everything! LOL.
And one where mommy won’t mind being in a bathing suit the entire time, because DAMN I look good right now!!!
We’ve got our health, we’ve got our wealth and we’ve got people to surround us with love and support from good friends, even if they live in FLORIDA

Staci, your comment exudes gratitude and confidence. I love this!

Papa and I try to teach our kids that we are “wealthy” too. We really do feel blessed. We love each other, we support each other, and we are able to spend a lot of time together… that makes me feel “rich” because no amount of money or material things can replace that feeling of being with the people you love.

Can’t wait to hear all about the vacation and see pictures!!! :)
